What is Complementary Medicine

Complementary Therapy, otherwise known as Alternative Medicine, is effective, safe and an extremely powerful form of healing. The methods used have been around for centuries , and in the case of nutrition and herbalism, for millenia, to successfully treat patients. Its popularity is quickly increasing again.

Complementary Therapy involves treating the person as a whole and individual (unlike conventional medicine, which examines symptoms; not the patient as a person).

Moreover, natural healing examines all the aspects of a persons life including lifestyle, diet, occupation ,emotions and many other factors. It therefore is able to cure the individual on a physical, emotional, mental, psychological and spiritual level, which is more specific and holistic. Treatment can then be adequately adapted to the persons specific needs.

It can help in many ways, with many conditions. It treats acute illnesses as well as regulates chronic diseases. In many cases, it can prevent diseases. It improves overall health and increases energy level, eliminates toxins, reduces stress and tension and restores balance.

Specifically, it can treat Cancer, candidiasis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ADHD, ADD, Daiebetes, fibromyalgia, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's disease, IBS, constipation and many more. It helps with emotional and spirituality as well.

Please note: Complementary medicine should not be used instead of conventional medication,or in place of doctors advice, but rather in conjunction with it

Here are some common questions I have been asked about nutrition:

What is a nutritionist?

A nutrition is a professional trained in understanding the body and its nutritional requirements. They know how to develop individualised programs with regards to food, supplements, and lifestyle modifications. This helps the individual to attain optimum health. They provide education so the individual can make informed decisions with regards to food choices and lifestyle. They also provide the motivation to achieve the individuals specific goal.
How does a nutritional consultation differ from a dietitian consultation?

A nutritionist and a dietitian are basically the same in what they offer, they give the same services and advice; just what they studied may differ.

Why should I see a nutritionist?

Nutrients found in food form the basic components for functioning on a cellular level. To provide the best nutrients, you need to know what foods your body specifically needs. This will aid in optimal functioning, energy and general well being. In addition, avoiding foods that are not needed by your body will alleviate the accumulation of toxins, and your bodies efforts to cleanse itself, which can help prevent illness, and helps your body focus on maintaining health.

How can a nutritionist help me?
  • Prevention- Good nutrition can aid in prevention of disease.
  • General well- being and energy levels- Nutrition helps to attain optimum functioning . It also helps you feel refreshed and more energetic
  • Weight Maintenace- Nutrition can help you lose weight, gain weight or just maintain your ideal weight.
  • Illness- Nutrition can help the body overcome certain conditions, or can alleviate symptoms in more chronic conditions. It can help with most conditions such as ADHD, candida, diabetes, allergies and many more
